Scot James Obituary, TURKEY — Scot James, a 34-year-old Welsh rugby player and devoted father, has died after allegedly being attacked while on holiday in Turkey earlier this month. His family confirmed that he passed away on Sunday after suffering severe injuries that left him declared brain dead.
James, who played for Maesteg Celtic RFC, was reportedly left in a critical condition following what his family described as an assault while he was abroad. After spending time in Turkey receiving medical care, he was flown back to the United Kingdom by air ambulance on Friday, July 24.
His family said James had been declared brain dead in Turkey on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following seizures linked to his injuries. They remained by his side during his treatment overseas before he was transferred to the UK, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
In a statement shared through a fundraising page, James’ sister Hannah said the family was with him during his final moments. She said they were able to spend his last days together before he sadly passed away on Sunday, July 26, with his loved ones by his side.
Tributes have been shared for James, who was described by those close to him as a loving father, son, grandson, and partner. Friends and family remembered him as an “all-round loveable man” whose presence had a lasting impact on those who knew him.
His rugby club also paid tribute, describing James as an outstanding player, a great character, and a friend to everyone who had the opportunity to share the field with him. The club said members were devastated by his passing and extended their thoughts to his family and friends.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed that it is supporting James’ family following his death and remains in contact with local authorities in Turkey regarding the incident.
As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, Scot James is being remembered by his family, friends, and rugby community for the person he was and the memories he created. Condolences remain with his loved ones during this difficult time.
