Harare-Bulawayo Road Accident Update — Six people have died and six others were injured following a devastating road traffic accident involving a commuter omnibus on the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Zimbabwe, police have confirmed.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the 9-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road. The accident happened near the Tynwald Rail Road Flyover, close to the Harare Drive junction, when the commuter omnibus reportedly veered off the roadway and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully containing water.
National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said the kombi was carrying 11 passengers at the time of the crash. Authorities confirmed that six people lost their lives in the incident, while six others sustained injuries and were transported to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for emergency medical treatment.
Police stated that the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted. Officials also confirmed that efforts are underway to formally identify all of the victims and notify their next of kin before additional information is released.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police extended its condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and wished those receiving treatment a full and speedy recovery.
