Ryan Myers Obituary, ALTAMONT, Kan. — Ryan J. Myers, 38, of Altamont, Kansas, and Samantha A. Cahow, 30, of Parsons, Kansas, have died following a fatal head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a Jeep on U.S. Highway 59 in Labette County.
The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon, when Myers was operating a 1999 Harley-Davidson XL883 motorcycle with Cahow riding as his passenger. The collision happened at approximately 3:10 p.m. on U.S. Highway 59, about two miles northeast of Altamont, according to information released by authorities.
Kansas Highway Patrol investigators reported that the motorcycle was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and entered the path of a southbound 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The Jeep driver, identified as 55-year-old Shaun T. Powell of Fort Scott, attempted to avoid the collision by steering away, but the vehicles collided head-on.
Following the impact, both Myers and Cahow were thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency responders and state troopers arrived at the scene, but both were pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities reported that Myers and Cahow were not wearing helmets or protective eye gear at the time of the collision. The Jeep driver suffered suspected minor injuries, while his 27-year-old passenger, Lucas A. Kelley, was not injured. Both occupants of the Jeep were reported to have been wearing seat belts.
