Charlotte Elizabeth Evans Obituary, FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Charlotte Elizabeth Evans of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away on July 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with osteosarcoma. She was 11 years old. A rising sixth grader at Grace Christian Academy in Annandale, Charlotte will be remembered for her unwavering faith, remarkable resilience, and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her.
Charlotte was known for her love of learning, particularly in mathematics and art, and her Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Outside the classroom, she delighted in building LEGO creations, crafting miniature houses, and creating clay art projects alongside her beloved “Gigi.” She also had a deep appreciation for nature and animals, forming a special bond with a retired pony named Kane and enjoying time on her grandparents’ farm in Appomattox, where she loved feeding baby lambs, gathering chicken eggs, and spending time with the farm dogs.
An enthusiastic swimmer from the age of six, Charlotte became an important member of her summer swim team, helping the team achieve an undefeated Division 5 championship season in 2025. She cherished the ocean, family beach vacations, and dreamed of one day earning her scuba certification to explore the Great Barrier Reef. Although that dream remained unfulfilled, she experienced many treasured adventures, including swimming with dolphins, visiting the Pacific Ocean, and encountering a variety of sea creatures she adored.
Charlotte’s creativity extended beyond her love for art. A gifted builder, she progressed from small LEGO sets to constructing elaborate Harry Potter castles before eventually collaborating with an architect and custom home builders to design her own treehouse at Lake Anna. Her imagination and determination reflected a spirit that refused to be limited by circumstance.
Diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of eight, Charlotte faced years of intensive treatment with extraordinary courage. She endured a knee and femur replacement, a broken ankle, severe bleeding complications, a collapsed lung, chemotherapy treatments, and lengthy hospital stays. Despite these challenges, she continually worked to regain her strength through physical therapy and returned to swimming earlier this year, even after the disease had spread to much of her right lung and left her left arm paralyzed.
Her determination never faded. Just days before her passing, Charlotte encouraged her family to “keep fighting” as she continued pursuing every available treatment option, including an experimental radiation therapy paired with a specially approved medication. A hospital board had also been preparing to consider making her the first child to receive a promising new drug. According to her family, Charlotte remained focused on living until her final hours, continuing to take her medication and directing those caring for her to help keep her comfortable.
Charlotte passed peacefully at 12:15 a.m. on July 26 in the arms of her father. Her family found comfort in their faith, believing she was welcomed into the presence of Jesus without suffering. Her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” — became the foundation of her remarkable journey and continues to inspire those who loved her.
She is survived by her parents, Daniel and Jessica (Stone) Evans; her 8-year-old sister, Jourdan; her grandparents, Richard and Wendy Weinstein, and Jack and Pam Evans; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide community of churches, supporters, and close friends who became like family throughout Charlotte’s courageous fight.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Charlotte Evans Legacy Fund, which will support osteosarcoma research and provide assistance to families navigating a new diagnosis. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, at Reston Bible Church in Dulles, Virginia, where attendees are encouraged to wear blue, especially turquoise or ocean blue, in Charlotte’s honor. An open house is scheduled for Sunday, August 2, at Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa, followed by a graveside service on Monday, August 3, at Spring Grove Memorial Cemetery in Mineral, Virginia.
