Bobbie Pettiford Obituary, DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Bobbie Pettiford, 68, has died after a large tree fell onto her DeKalb County home earlier this week, according to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Pettiford was identified as the victim of the incident at her residence on Bretton Woods Road, where authorities said the fallen tree caused significant damage to the structure. Preliminary findings from the DeKalb County Police Department indicate that her death was associated with the tree collapse.
Emergency crews were called to the home after concerns were raised about Pettiford’s welfare following the tree’s impact on the property. The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department said firefighters initially responded on Tuesday for a welfare check but were unable to locate her during their first search of the residence.
Firefighters returned to the home on Wednesday to conduct a more extensive search of the damaged property. During that search, first responders discovered Pettiford’s body inside the residence. Officials have not released additional details about the location where she was found.
The incident caused major damage to the rear portion of the home, where the large tree collapsed onto the structure. Emergency crews and investigators continued working at the scene as officials assessed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not released information about the exact time the tree fell or whether weather conditions played a role. The DeKalb County Police Department continues to investigate, while officials have indicated that preliminary evidence connects Pettiford’s death to the fallen tree.
Neighbors remembered Pettiford as someone who cared deeply about her home and community. Krista Reese, who lives across the street, offered condolences to Pettiford’s family and spoke about the connection she had with her neighborhood and residence.
As the investigation continues, officials have not announced any additional inspections or weather-related assessments. Bobbie Pettiford’s passing has left those who knew her mourning the loss of a longtime member of the DeKalb County community, with condolences extended to her loved ones during this difficult time.
